One of my community members, Fr Marc Gervais,SJ, a Jesuit priest, film critique and professor at Concordia University, has been to 40 Cannes Festival. He knows a lot of film people (directors, actors, actresses, etc). Fr. Gervais tells me a lot of funny stories about many of film people. This year he is not going. He is tired of it all and thinks it's becoming boring and commercialized......... You're not loosing much my dear.
the list does not look so spectacular compared to other years, but still, with new movies from Bruno Dumont, Aki Kaurismaki, Richard Linklater, Ken Loach and Tony Gatlif... if u do go, can u pack me in your suitcase or something? Palestinian director Elia Suleiman is also on the jury.
suleiman is the definitely the magnificent :) although the americans have yet to learn-- wasn't divine intervention banned by the oscars? i have yet to go to cannes...
How about a translator? At least a job like that would allow you to actually meet people, instead of just having to ask them to step out of the path of your lawn mower!
