Sunday thought

"It is the responsibility of intellectuals to take dissident positions, privilege confers opportunity and opportunity means obligation." Chomsky
did you know that Ahmadinejad's "Israel must be wiped off the map" statement is a rediculously physically-impossible equation?
did you know that for people (nations) to co-exist under the same roof (sky) they need to smile in the morning, or else everyone will have a shitty day and dread coming home in the evening? or that they might even start destroying the furniture in one of their routine rage fits?
did you know how many amazing Isaeli bloggers are out there? people just like us, all they want is peace and quiet, a "normal" life so to speak
and did you know that so much communication and rational discussions are going on between Arab and Israeli bloggers? between Syrian and Lebanese bloggers? and that if this evolved and expanded we might actually have a chance to co-exist in the not so distant future?
We do co-exist and will indefinitely co-exist , these are the facts. The sooner we accept them the sooner we can start working on ways to live with them.

call me naive, call me ignorant, even a traitor. all I want is to come back home and have a peaceful evening. it's the easiest thing to be a cynic, to brush off and mock an idea because it's too unfamiliar and uncomfortable. and it's the hardest but most amazing thing to envision a reality that is seemingly out of reach.

traitor?! we all hope to come home in the evening to a peaceful world. it shouldn't get to the point of being passive though and not caring because, face it, the world is at war today. so like gus said, politicians and money gurus control this and they get away with it because people just want to live.. through the comunication and the open-mindedness of people like us and our fellow bloggers we could envision an ideal society. our little group here could represent a perfect lebanon for example. except and going back to rouba's post.. what can we do? to change the world, obviously nothing.

but that's my point! we cant keep on thinking we can do nothing, because then we really wont do anything, we'll just preach and lecture from our living rooms (studios in my case). i'm not saying change will happen in the next couple of years, but the future in the next few decades will belong to people like us, and if those people think like us then something WILL be done.

it can be and it will be. it's a media that contains and reflects the change that we've been through and that we should bring back with us.

Politicians should read blogs more often. And they should read this post in particular.

Well said Laila.

I marvel over the blogosphere everyday! Just a few years ago, I never imagined that not only would I have an opportunity to exchange thoughts and ideas with our regional neighbors, but that we'd actually be seeking each other out to do so! It's amazing, isn't it?

I was actually thinking of writing a post on the same subject, and if I can ever get my lazy ass in gear, I will do so.

"A journey of a thousand miles begin with the first step"---- Chinese proverb.

We are a long way from the first step. We've marshed, protested, spoke, wrote, blogged, photographed, yelled, cried, bitched and so on....Let's continue the journey. I'm hopeful.
