It seems that journalists are nothing more than psychologically screwed up mathematicians.
It's only numbers that make the news. The lives, somehow seem to be forgotten.
that's counting violent crimes of individuals against groups and groups against each other. But violence of individuals against individuals is much more widespread than that. What about all those who die of hunger and normally benign disease just because no one looks their way, these also are violent deaths, albeit through passive violence.

What hurts me that these news became kinda routine,and not big news anymore....people are dying? yeah yeah...what's new!!!
We lost part of our humanity.
i agree with hashem...
what's really disturbing is not the actual death toll but rather our re-action to that (or rather no-reaction).
refugee and fouad, you're absolutely right.
hakki, nice post
hashem and raed, that's exactly what i meant with "yeah. next blog." it's sad but true.
Man, we're ruled by numbers...

Yes, I am a quoter....
"Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard, it seems to me most strange that men should fear;
Seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come". - (Act II, Scene II). Shakespeare

I've thought about doing a post like this, so I'm glad someone got to it before me. The loss of life in Iraq is particularly alarming, and it is sad that death - both under violent circumstances and otherwise - has become so common place that nobody even blinks an eye when it happens anymore.
Years ago, when the suicide bombings started here, whenever there was an attack, the radio stations would switch to quiet music, TV stations would pull their comedies, and life would virtually come to a halt because we were just too stunned and hurt. Now, people barely take notice when they happen, unless it's a really big one, and even then, life goes on as before.
